IOI Corporation Sees Minimal El Nino Threat to Palm Oil Yields

With the vast majority of its plantations situated in Malaysia, IOI Corporation is bracing for only a negligible impact from El Nino weather patterns. While drought conditions have persisted in Indonesia, the firm’s limited exposure there safeguards its overall output projections for the coming fiscal cycle.

IOI Corporation Sees Minimal El Nino Threat to Palm Oil Yields

Chief Executive Lee Yeow Chor confirmed during a press conference on Wednesday that Indonesian estates represent a mere 12% of the company's total land bank. This geographic distribution provides a buffer against regional climate volatility, allowing the company to forecast single-digit production growth for fiscal year 2027. Market stability remains a priority, with IOI projecting crude palm oil prices to hold between 4,500 and 4,600 ringgit per ton through the end of the year.

Beyond traditional agriculture, the company is diversifying its footprint through a 500-megawatt solar farm project in Negeri Sembilan, developed alongside Tenaga Nasional and an SME consortium. IOI is currently evaluating additional sites near existing grid infrastructure for further renewable energy expansion. Backed by a healthy balance sheet, Lee indicated that the firm retains sufficient capacity to pursue new investment opportunities as they arise.
