Snapchat Hits 30 Million Paid Subscribers Amid Revenue Struggles

Snap has officially crossed the 30 million mark for paid subscribers, adding 5 million users to its premium ecosystem since February. The growth spans the core Snapchat+ service, Lens+, and dedicated storage plans, though this milestone arrives as the company faces a sharp 12% decline in share price following missed growth targets.

Snapchat Hits 30 Million Paid Subscribers Amid Revenue Struggles

The company’s shift toward tiered subscription models has been central to its monetization strategy since the 2022 launch of Snapchat+. Users now navigate a menu of options ranging from the $3.99 monthly standard plan to the $15.99 Platinum tier, which removes advertisements entirely. This expansion follows a strategic move to monetize the Memories feature, where the company began enforcing storage limits for free users, effectively funneling them toward paid alternatives.

CEO Evan Spiegel credited the growth to AI-powered features within the $8.99 Lens+ tier, noting that these creative tools have outperformed internal projections. Despite this success, the broader financial outlook remains strained. Snap reported 495 million daily active users this quarter, trailing the 499 million anticipated by analysts. Spiegel emphasized that the company is prioritizing long-term product utility and safety over short-term engagement metrics, even as it works to rectify advertising revenue growth that currently sits below company targets.
