TikTok launches standalone Shop app in four Asian markets

TikTok has introduced a separate app for its Shop service in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, giving the e-commerce business a dedicated destination outside its main social media platform. The app is available on iOS and Android, and TikTok has not said whether it will expand to other markets.

First spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, the app combines personalized product recommendations with shopping through live streams and short-form videos. It also offers in-app checkout, order tracking and customer support. Its description promotes free shipping offers, first-order benefits and “secure payments for safe checkout.” App-exclusive deals are intended to encourage users to shop there rather than through the main TikTok app.

A standalone destination could help TikTok Shop reach shoppers who do not use TikTok’s main platform and put it in more direct competition with e-commerce services such as Amazon and Temu. TikTok did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment on the rollout. It remains unclear whether the app will be released more widely or brought to the United States, where it would also compete with retailers including Walmart and Target, whose customers routinely order through their apps.

The move echoes Amazon’s earlier attempt to bring short-form video shopping to its platform with Inspire, a TikTok-like feed designed to draw consumer attention and drive sales. TikTok is now making a similar play in reverse, seeking to attract shoppers from services such as Amazon into its own ecosystem.

The Shop app is part of TikTok’s broader push beyond social networking and entertainment. The company has added games, restaurant guides, sports hubs, hotel booking and microdramas, and is also exploring payments.
