Roelof Botha joins SpaceX board

Former Sequoia Capital leader Roelof Botha has joined the SpaceX board of directors, stepping in to fill a vacant seat shortly after the company’s historic public offering. The move adds a seasoned financial strategist to the board’s audit committee as the aerospace firm navigates its new life as a public entity.

The appointment was confirmed Wednesday through a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. SpaceX indicated that Botha will serve until the company’s next annual shareholder meeting, leveraging his extensive background in corporate governance and audit oversight to stabilize the firm's transition. Botha recently concluded his tenure as the managing partner of Sequoia Capital late last year.

This role reunites Botha with Elon Musk, marking a professional intersection that dates back to the early 2000s. Botha joined PayPal in March 2000, overlapping briefly with Musk before the latter was ousted as CEO that September. By bringing in a former colleague with a track record of managing public company boards, SpaceX aims to bolster its internal financial oversight during a period of intense market scrutiny.
