Heath Wassem Named Director of Golf at GPA Connecticut Campus

Wassem arrives in Ridgefield following a 21-year tenure as Head Professional at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York. His background includes extensive service with the Metropolitan PGA, where he served as a board member for nearly two decades and eventually as Section President. In his new role, he reports to GPA Director of Golf Manuel Bermudez, who operates out of the academy’s recently launched Florida campus in Port St. Lucie.

The academy maintains a specialized training environment for competitive golfers in grades 8 through 12, focusing on a 6-to-1 student-to-coach ratio. The curriculum integrates physical and mental conditioning with tournament management and data-driven swing analysis. According to GPA CEO Lee-Anne Gilchrist, Wassem’s experience as a former Division 1 collegiate golfer and his deep network within the Metropolitan PGA will be instrumental in mentoring students pursuing high-level competitive careers. Wassem recently oversaw the graduation of the latest senior class from the Connecticut program, all of whom have transitioned into collegiate golf programs.
