Clarins launches Longevity Research Center to decode skin aging

Clarins has inaugurated the Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins Longevity Research Center in Paris, a new hub dedicated to bridging the gap between epigenetics and dermatological health. By focusing on the 85% of gene expression influenced by lifestyle, the center aims to move beyond surface-level beauty into proactive, evidence-based skin vitality.

Clarins launches Longevity Research Center to decode skin aging

Under the chairmanship of Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins, the new facility aggregates a multidisciplinary team of biologists, data scientists, and engineers across its Paris headquarters and Pontoise laboratories. The center’s mission centers on mapping the definitive factors that accelerate aging, utilizing the foundational research of Joël de Rosnay to treat skin as a dynamic biological system rather than an immutable feature.

Targeting cellular biomarkers

The research hub is tasked with identifying and influencing the mechanisms of skin longevity. By addressing eight key biomarkers—including epigenetic changes, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cellular senescence—Clarins intends to translate laboratory findings into tangible product applications. Current initiatives include the development of doctoral programs and international collaborations to refine how daily lifestyle choices, from nutrition to environmental exposure, dictate long-term skin performance. The company’s long-term strategy seeks to delay or reverse age-related cellular behaviors, marking a shift toward integrative, preventative skincare that extends from the skin barrier to scalp health.
