Texas Government Vendor Breach Exposes 3 Million Records

The exposed information includes driver’s license numbers and passport details, marking one of the most significant data security failures to hit the state’s infrastructure throughout the current calendar year.

The incident originated within a third-party vendor system responsible for processing hunting and fishing licenses for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. While the state’s cybersecurity unit identified the unauthorized access, officials have remained tight-lipped regarding the specific timeline of the intrusion or the identity of the software provider involved.

Beyond government-issued identification numbers, the stolen cache contains sensitive contact information, including residential addresses, email accounts, and phone numbers. The department has yet to confirm whether they have been contacted by the perpetrators or if the stolen data has already surfaced on the dark web.
