Mivo Scrolling pivots from restriction to self-reflection

Instead of imposing rigid blackouts, the newly launched Mivo Scrolling app invites users to confront their digital habits through a series of mindful interruptions. By asking users to categorize their intent before they dive into feeds, the tool attempts to transform mindless scrolling into a conscious, intentional activity.

Mivo Scrolling pivots from restriction to self-reflection

Launched last month, Mivo operates within the burgeoning slowtech movement, which seeks to repair the fractured relationship between humans and their devices. Rather than locking users out of platforms, the app allows for customizable windows—such as two one-hour sessions—where users select their focus. When a session begins or a set interval passes, the app prompts a brief pause, asking users to identify whether they are seeking genuine relaxation or merely dodging boredom.

This methodology relies on cognitive friction rather than blunt force. Creator Pranshu Raithatha notes that traditional tools often intervene too late, whereas Mivo addresses the behavior at the point of entry. Users can also enable intermittent check-ins every two to five minutes to maintain awareness. Following a session, the app logs whether the time felt productive or wasted, aiming to build long-term behavioral changes. The application is currently available as a free download on the App Store, featuring home screen widgets to track progress and upcoming scheduled sessions.
