CEO Ryan Zhang confirmed the shift today, noting that the company’s previous reliance on a subscription paywall created unnecessary friction for customers who had already invested in the physical product. Under the new policy, the purchase of the SpeakON magnetic iPhone accessory now covers the full AI feature set, including Auto Format, Style, Translation, Voice Edits, and Dictionary tools.

SpeakON Scraps Pro Subscription to Bundle AI Features with Hardware
San Francisco hardware maker SpeakON is abandoning its recurring software fees, granting all device owners unlimited access to its suite of AI-powered transcription and editing tools. The company’s decision to move away from the $89 annual subscription model follows direct user feedback regarding the cost of accessing core hardware features.
Existing Pro subscribers who own the hardware will have their plans canceled automatically and receive prorated refunds. While the company maintains a limited free tier for software-only users via its iOS keyboard extension, hardware owners now gain unrestricted access to AI processing. Looking ahead, SpeakON plans to introduce additional functionality, such as automated note structuring and agent-based task execution, though the company noted that these future capabilities may operate under different terms.
