MDA Space Lands $688 Million Contract for Canadian Radar Satellite
The Canadian Space Agency has tapped MDA Space to design and launch an advanced synthetic aperture radar satellite, a move designed to extend the lifespan and capabilities of the existing RADARSAT Constellation Mission. This $688 million agreement solidifies the company’s role in maintaining Canada’s sovereign Earth observation infrastructure.
This investment represents a significant portion of the federal government’s $1.012 billion RADARSAT+ portfolio, initiated in October 2023 to ensure uninterrupted satellite data coverage. Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, noted that the data remains vital for Arctic surveillance, maritime safety, and disaster response. The satellite will be assembled and tested at the company’s Montréal facility, with the contract value officially entering the company’s fiscal backlog during the second quarter of 2026.
