BL Companies Earns National Recognition for Employee-Owned Culture

BL Companies Earns National Recognition for Employee-Owned Culture

The rankings, which evaluate architecture, engineering, and construction firms on workplace culture and professional development, placed BL Companies 11th in the 200-plus employee category and 20th among multidisciplinary firms nationwide. The evaluation process relies on a blend of firm-provided data and anonymous feedback from staff, highlighting the company’s internal structure as a primary driver of its success.

President and CEO Carolyn Stanworth credits the firm’s ESOP model—where employees hold ownership stakes—for fostering a high-engagement environment as the company nears its 40th anniversary. Survey respondents pointed to flexible work arrangements, inclusive decision-making, and robust benefit packages as central reasons for their high job satisfaction. These findings underscore a broader industry trend identified by Zweig Group, where top-performing firms increasingly prioritize human capital investments to maintain competitive advantages and minimize turnover. The winners will be formally honored at the upcoming ElevateAEC Conference in Park City, Utah.
