Spok Holdings will divest a portion of its narrowband spectrum portfolio to Sensus USA in an $8 million transaction. The agreement, expected to finalize in the third quarter, allows the Plano-based healthcare communications firm to streamline its network infrastructure as demand for traditional two-way paging services continues to decline.
Chief Executive Vincent D. Kelly noted that the divestiture will not disrupt operations for current subscribers. As wireless user attrition persists across the industry, Spok no longer requires the same volume of paging frequencies to support its healthcare communications platform, Spok Care Connect. A portion of the $8 million purchase price remains deferred until the full migration of users to the new frequencies is complete.
