CHINT Targets Africa’s Industrial Growth with Sustainable Power Tech

The company’s presentation focused on the theme of "Smart, Sustainable and Affordable Energy Solutions for Africa's Industrial Leap." By integrating power transmission, distribution, and storage, CHINT aims to address common regional hurdles such as grid instability, rising electricity demand, and delayed fault responses. These solutions are intended to help utilities and project developers scale their capacity while meeting decarbonization targets.

A significant portion of the exhibition addressed the challenge of aging distribution transformers. Many units across Africa have surpassed their design life, creating maintenance burdens and fire risks due to the low flash point of traditional mineral oil. To mitigate this, CHINT presented its natural ester transformer series. These units utilize biodegradable oil with a flash point exceeding 300°C, significantly reducing fire hazards and environmental impact compared to conventional mineral oil equipment.

Thomas Cheng, General Manager of CHINT West Asia and Africa, emphasized that the firm’s strategy relies on blending global innovation with local partnerships. The company has already deployed smart ring main units across several nations, including Nigeria, Algeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Namibia. By providing scalable, high-efficiency infrastructure, CHINT seeks to support both industrial growth and the reliability of local power grids.
