Generation Lab Debuts Sex-Specific Biological Age Testing

Burlingame-based Generation Lab has launched SystemAge 2.1, the first diagnostic platform to offer biological age testing tailored specifically to male and female physiology. By shifting away from universal aging models, the company aims to provide more granular, organ-specific insights into how men and women experience biological decline differently.

Developed under the guidance of co-founder Prof. Irina Conboy, the platform analyzes over 460 biomarkers across 21 organ systems. Unlike traditional methylation clocks, SystemAge 2.1 utilizes a proprietary "Biological Noise" measurement. This method tracks standard deviations in DNA methylation patterns, which researchers identify as a more precise indicator of aging and disease onset than the linear models used in earlier tests. The system’s accuracy is backed by validation across 1,605 test cases.

The update introduces specialized tracking for skin, connective tissue, reproductive systems, and mitochondrial function. By offering longitudinal trend views, the platform allows clinicians to monitor the efficacy of specific interventions—such as peptide therapy, hormone protocols, or Therapeutic Plasma Exchange—on a per-organ basis. CEO Alina Su noted that the diagnostic is already utilized by over 750 clinics across 18 countries, including providers like the Boulder Longevity Institute. By isolating sex-specific biological drivers, the company intends to help patients identify accelerated aging markers long before clinical symptoms manifest.
