PowerBank Secures First U.S. Federal Contract for Defense Site

A $2.95 million federal contract will see Toronto-based PowerBank install a solar-powered canopy and electric-vehicle charging infrastructure at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Farmingdale, New York. The project marks the solar and battery storage firm’s first direct engagement with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of the Army.

The facility supports a broad range of military operations, serving the Army Reserve, Naval Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, and the New York National Guard. PowerBank’s U.S. subsidiary has received official notice to proceed, triggering the engineering, procurement, and construction phases of the photovoltaic array and charging network.

This federal win builds on the company’s recent activity in New York, where its Abundant Solar Power unit previously secured state-level agreements. Those projects involved the construction of ground-mounted and rooftop solar arrays alongside battery energy storage systems for the New York Department of Military and Naval Affairs.
