Leifras Expands School Club Management into Tokyo's Ota Ward

Ota Ward has awarded LEIFRAS Co., Ltd. a contract to oversee 33 club activities across nine public junior high schools starting this April. This marks the company's first major entry into the densely populated Tokyo special ward, signaling a significant shift toward private-sector management of extracurricular youth sports in Japan.

The agreement aligns with Japan's national "Reform Execution Period," a government-led push to alleviate the administrative burden on teachers by transitioning weekend club activities to local communities and private operators. With 9,800 junior high schools nationwide, Leifras estimates the domestic market for these services is worth approximately JPY500 billion.

Leifras currently holds the top industry position, supporting 2,120 clubs across 381 schools. The company attributes its rapid growth to a safety-first model that has recorded zero major accidents since the service launched in 2013. By leveraging a workforce of over 4,500 staff and deep partnerships with local governments, the company plans to continue capturing market share as the Ministry of Education accelerates the privatization of extracurricular programs throughout fiscal 2026.
