Sherpa Tutors Launches Specialized Division for SEN Pupils

With the number of pupils in England requiring special educational needs support hitting a record 1.8 million, online platform Sherpa Tutors has launched a dedicated division to bridge the gap. The initiative provides families access to 1,300 teaching specialists trained in neurodiversity and complex learning requirements.

Sherpa Tutors Launches Specialized Division for SEN Pupils

The Department for Education reported a 5.2% increase in SEN registrations over the last year, leaving many schools struggling to manage the rising volume of students requiring individualized attention. Sherpa’s new division targets this deficit by offering one-on-one sessions tailored to specific conditions including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety.

Angela Winters, Head of Engagement at Sherpa Tutors, notes that the program prioritizes confidence-building alongside academic progress. For many students, the primary barrier to learning is severe anxiety; tutors aim to equip these pupils with a resilience toolkit to navigate social and academic challenges. By utilizing techniques such as consistent routines for autistic learners and interactive, short-burst activities for those with ADHD, the platform seeks to accommodate diverse information processing styles. Currently, 59% of the platform's tutor base possesses specific SEN teaching experience, supported by a staff composition where 46% are qualified teachers and 16% are experienced examiners.
