United Airlines Adds Nonstop Cartagena Routes from IAH and IAD

Travelers gain a direct path to Colombia’s Caribbean coast this winter as United Airlines launches nonstop service from Houston and Washington, D.C. to Cartagena. Starting December 17, the carrier will operate four weekly flights from both hubs, becoming the first U.S. airline to offer this specific connection.

The new routes utilize Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring seatback entertainment, Bluetooth connectivity, and expanded overhead bin space. These year-round flights represent a strategic expansion of United’s Latin American footprint, which has included service to Bogota and Medellín for over three decades. The addition of Cartagena connects the coastal city to more than 70 domestic destinations across the United States.

Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of network planning, noted that the service reflects a commitment to diversifying travel options within Colombia. Cartagena was recently highlighted by Lonely Planet as a 2026 'Best in Travel' destination, drawing interest for its preserved Spanish architecture and culinary profile. Tickets for the service are currently available via the United website and mobile application, pending final government approval.
