The transition follows an extensive renovation of the property, which first opened its doors in 1909. With 311 guest rooms and 30 suites, the hotel retains its identity as an independent property while gaining access to Marriott’s loyalty program. The interior design leans heavily into the hotel's cultural roots, featuring a curated vinyl library, in-room record players, and a professional recording studio. Guests can also visit four onsite dining venues: Jots, Keystone Club, Bar 414, and Paris Baguette.

San Antonio’s Historic Gunter Hotel Joins Marriott Tribute Portfolio
After a $57 million restoration, the 116-year-old Gunter Hotel has officially integrated into Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio. The downtown San Antonio landmark, which famously hosted blues legend Robert Johnson in 1936, now balances its storied musical heritage with the expanded reach of a global hospitality network.

To mark the rebranding, management launched the "Restored. Reimagined. Remarkable" package, available for stays through the end of 2026. This promotion offers a 26% discount on the best available rate, alongside perks like a champagne toast, access to live music, and late checkout. As part of the Tribute Portfolio, the Gunter joins a global network of over 185 independent hotels, maintaining its status with Historic Hotels of America while adopting the operational infrastructure of the Marriott Bonvoy ecosystem.
