Sabino eventually retrieved the manuscript from atop his refrigerator during the pandemic, completing the work within a year. By weaving his own experiences into the fictional life of Colozzo, the author attempts to reconcile the nostalgic aesthetics of the 1980s and 90s with the stark, modern realities of mental health struggles.
