Czech Firefighters Overhaul Command Strategy with Real-Time Video

Fire commanders in the Czech Republic have moved beyond radio-only communication, integrating live video intelligence into emergency operations. By deploying bonded-IP technology from LiveU, the Fire Rescue Service can now stream thermal and aerial footage directly to decision-makers, a shift that has already significantly reduced response times during major wildfires.

The transition follows a 2022 wildfire in Bohemian Switzerland National Park that revealed a dangerous gap in situational awareness. During that incident, commanders relied solely on voice reports, which often failed to capture the rapid shifts in terrain and fire behavior. To bridge this, the service partnered with Smart Informatics to deploy LU-REQON1 and LU800 units, capable of bonding 5G, LTE, and Starlink satellite connections to maintain transmission in remote areas with poor network coverage.

This technology proved its value during a recent large-scale wildfire where over 2,581 personnel and 356 pieces of equipment were involved. Using thermal drones and stationary PTZ cameras, crews tracked hotspots in real time, allowing for a more precise allocation of aerial resources. Col. Jiří Studnička, head of the communications department, noted that the system is simple enough for crews to activate in seconds under field conditions. Beyond internal command, the LiveU Matrix platform now allows the service to distribute live feeds to public television for urgent disaster updates. For the Czech rescue teams, the ability to see the front lines as they happen has transformed their operational baseline from mere reaction to informed, data-driven strategy.
