OrthAlign Launches Lantern ASC System for Outpatient Joint Replacement

Six total knee replacements completed in under four hours mark the debut of OrthAlign’s Lantern ASC system, a portable navigation platform designed to bypass the heavy capital costs and workflow constraints of traditional surgical robotics in ambulatory surgery centers.

OrthAlign Launches Lantern ASC System for Outpatient Joint Replacement

Dr. Zane Uhland performed the inaugural procedures on June 30, integrating the handheld technology into a high-efficiency outpatient workflow. Unlike robotic systems that demand dedicated floor space, annual service contracts, and rigid implant commitments, the Lantern ASC platform offers a scalable alternative. It functions through a reusable navigation unit paired with a procedural Smart Pack Kit, which remains compatible with most major implant brands.

CEO Eric Timko emphasized that the system removes the financial friction typically associated with advanced surgical tools. By eliminating the need for expensive capital investments, the platform allows facilities to maintain surgical throughput without the delays often inherent in robotic setups. Built on a legacy of over 450,000 previous OrthAlign cases, the system provides real-time navigation for total and partial knee arthroplasty, positioning itself as a strategic tool for providers shifting joint care into outpatient settings.
