Advita Ortho Expands Shoulder Portfolio with Bauer Innovations Patents

Advita Ortho has secured three patent applications from Bauer Innovations, marking a strategic move to bolster its Equinoxe Shoulder System. The acquisition targets the complex challenge of glenoid bone loss, specifically aiming to enhance reverse total shoulder arthroplasty outcomes for patients requiring revision surgery.

The newly acquired intellectual property focuses on the development of reverse shoulder glenoid baseplates, a critical component for addressing central vault and uncontained glenoid defects. By integrating these designs, Advita intends to provide surgeons with off-the-shelf components capable of handling diverse defect shapes and sizes, bridging the clinical gap between standard bone grafts and fully custom implants.

Chris Roche, Senior Vice President of Extremities at Advita, noted that the investment is designed to streamline the treatment of difficult bone loss cases through more efficient implant architecture. Dr. Greg Bauer, founder of Bauer Innovations, stated that the technology originated from his own surgical experience, where he identified a pressing need for more versatile revision solutions. The collaboration aims to move these concepts from intellectual property to a commercialized revision system, reinforcing Advita’s broader strategy of combining specialized orthopedic hardware with advanced surgical planning.
