Reports of Torture Against Toddler in Gaza Draw Outrage

The incident reportedly took place Saturday near the al-Maghazi refugee camp. According to accounts shared by local media and eyewitnesses, IDF troops intercepted Osama Abu Nassar and his son, Karim, ordering the father to abandon the child on the ground before advancing to a checkpoint for a search. Witnesses state the soldiers then subjected the toddler to physical abuse in front of his father. Documentation from journalist Osama Al-Kahlout shows injuries on the child’s legs, including a cigarette burn and a nail puncture, which have been corroborated by medical sources.

Karim was eventually released to relatives through the International Committee of the Red Cross after 10 hours of detention, while his father remains in custody. The IDF has offered no comment on the allegations. In the United States, the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the act as a revolting moral outrage, demanding that Congress investigate the use of American taxpayer dollars in what they characterize as a systemic pattern of cruelty. The incident surfaces alongside a recent report by UN expert Francesca Albanese, which identifies a systematic, state-sanctioned use of torture against Palestinians that may meet the legal threshold for genocide.
