The designation recognizes BRIJ-SEAL for its potential to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes. Unlike traditional cyanoacrylate-based adhesives, the device features a proprietary hypoallergenic formula designed to minimize skin reactions. It functions as a sterile, waterproof barrier that remains effective for 14 days while allowing the incision site to breathe.

BRIJ Medical Secures Breakthrough Designation for BRIJ-SEAL Wound Sealant
San Diego-based BRIJ Medical has secured a Breakthrough Technology designation from Premier, Inc. for its BRIJ-SEAL advanced wound sealant. Effective August 1, 2026, the agreement grants Premier’s network of hospitals streamlined access to the device, alongside the company’s existing Brijjit tissue bridge product line.

CEO Tim Gleeson stated that the inclusion of BRIJ-SEAL completes a comprehensive portfolio of incision management tools. The company’s broader clinical data, which includes a randomized controlled trial at UT Southwestern, indicates that its incision management platform can reduce wound breakdown by 90% and scar area by 38%. Surgeons may now utilize BRIJ-SEAL independently or in tandem with the Brijjit BP-100 and BP-75 systems to combine tension offloading with protective sealing.
