Fed Chair Kevin Warsh adopted a hawkish stance following the increase to a range between 3.75% and 4%, declaring that inflation has remained unacceptably high for too long. Tai Hui, APAC chief market strategist at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, noted that the absence of cooling U.S. inflation, compounded by Middle East instability, suggests further tightening is likely. He anticipates the Fed may delay additional moves until December to avoid political friction during the upcoming mid-term elections.

Regional market reactions were uneven: while the Nikkei and Taiex saw modest gains, the Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng retreated. Bond markets followed the U.S. Treasury trend, with 10-year yields in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand all trending downward. Investors are also recalibrating energy expectations; oil prices slipped as reports emerged of Saudi Arabia rerouting crude exports from the shuttered Yanbu port. West Texas Intermediate futures softened to $101.96 a barrel, reflecting a cautious adjustment to the shifting geopolitical and monetary landscape.
