Denver Startup Onza Corp Debuts Crystallized Ozone to Curb Food Waste

Every year, 48 million Americans fall ill from contaminated food while the global supply chain hemorrhages $218 billion in annual waste. Denver-based AgTech startup Onza Corp is targeting these systemic failures with FreshSure, a patented technology that converts ozone into a stable, solid sachet for use from farm to refrigerator.

Denver Startup Onza Corp Debuts Crystallized Ozone to Curb Food Waste

Ozone has long been recognized as a potent antimicrobial, yet its utility has been hampered by its gaseous instability and short shelf life. Onza Corp’s new crystallized sachet bypasses these traditional constraints, allowing the pathogen-killing agent to be deployed as a slow-release tool. According to CEO Chuck Smith, the product aims to replace bulky, expensive machinery with a solution costing less than $1 per unit, directly addressing the spoilage that plagues produce during transport and storage.

The technology is currently undergoing trials with agricultural producers across three countries. By neutralizing pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella while simultaneously slowing the ripening process, the sachets offer a way to extend shelf life for farmers, grocers, and households alike. Beyond immediate food safety applications, the company holds broader ambitions to utilize its gas-to-solid platform in sectors including water treatment and healthcare. Onza Corp recently received a grant from the Colorado Office of Economic Development to support the commercialization of this foundational technology.
